THE STORY BEHIND THE BUILDING
Three decades shaped by memory
La Doble Ele was envisioned in 1994 by architect Jorge Mario Gómez as a boutique hotel. But Medellín was a very different city then — marked by violence and disconnected from the world. What once seemed like a limitation slowly became something unexpected.
The Origin
Conceived as a boutique hotel by architect Jorge Mario Gómez. Postmodern architecture defined by exposed concrete, stone veneers, intense colors, and honest textures.
The Creative Refuge
Without tourists, the building found another purpose. Artists, designers, and architects occupied its spaces to create, think, and conspire for a different city. La Doble Ele became a silent laboratory for Medellín's creative scene.
The Regeneration
Reversible reclaimed the building's original use: lodging. But this time with purpose. Every intervention was designed to preserve the essential, reduce environmental impact, and extend the building's lifespan. This is conscious hospitality.
